The History That Led to DEI.

Learn the History Not Being Taught — But Should Be. The History That Led to DEI.

DEI stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. It’s a term you might hear a lot, and sometimes it can feel like a big, controversial topic. But what does it really mean? And where did it come from?

Learn About the History Behind DEI

At the Pallas Learning Center, we’ve created a unit study called “The Roots of DEI” to help answer these questions. This study isn’t about trying to change your mind or “indoctrinate” you. Instead, it’s about learning important history from the years after World War II that connects to the DEI movement today.

A New Way to Look at DEI

Even if you don’t fully agree with DEI ideas, understanding the history behind it can help you see why others care about it. When I was working on this unit study, it helped me understand the reasons behind DEI better. Now, I feel more ready to talk with people who have different views.

What’s Included in the Unit Study?

This unit study is made for teenagers. It has:

  • 9 readings (plus audio podcasts for listening)
  • A quiz to test what you’ve learned
  • Fun discussion activities to share ideas with others

Topics Covered in the Unit Study

Here are some of the important topics you’ll learn about:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. – His life, his work, and how the FBI tried to stop him.
  • COINTELPRO – A secret FBI program that worked against the civil rights movement.
  • The Drug War – A strategy used to control the African-American population.

These lessons help connect African-American history to the DEI movement we see today.

Why This History Matters

Many schools don’t teach this history, but it’s important to know. Learning about these events helps us understand the world better and see where DEI comes from.
